Still not sure if art prints are suitable for you? We’re here to help break down all-things printing and framing, so you can understand everything you need to know before deciding on which PrinTribe product best suits you.
Today, let’s jump into the world of Premium Frames. We’ll be taking a deep dive into how to choose the right frame for your art, the differences between our Premium range and Classic range, paper types, ink quality, our printing methods, and much more.
How to Choose the Right Premium Frame
Your artwork is unique to you, so why should framing it be any different? That’s where our Premium Frames come in – this range lets you customise all key aspects from paper, size, glaze and finish, mounts, and of course, the frame – all using premium quality materials.
We receive many questions from artists wanting to know what type of frame to choose for their work. With countless styles out there, it’s only normal to wonder which frame would best suit a certain type of art, and which ones to steer clear of if you want the most complementary look.
Here are our tips on how to choose the right frame to complement your artwork:
While there are some frames that are better suited to certain artworks than others, it’s important to remember that it all comes down to your personal preference. If you’re really vibing with a particular moulding that doesn’t “conventionally” fit with your type of art, go for it!
If your customers enjoy mixing and matching different frames, there’s no one stopping you from offering those products. Always go with your gut and choose a frame that you think complements your work. With 11 options to choose from, the possibilities are endless!
If you’re ever unsure about which frame suits your work, or you simply want a little more guidance, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team of experts. We’re always here to offer a helping hand!
Premium Frames vs. Classics Frames – What’s the Difference?
You may have noticed that we offer Classic Frames as well as Premium Frames on our website. Premium Frames are a level above our Classic range, but why? What are the differences between the two options?
Put simply, our Premium Frames offer more customisable options than Classic Frames. On the other hand, Classic Frames are a more affordable choice, yet they still don’t compromise on quality.
We created the Classic Frames to give artists an alternative option to the Premium Frames price point if they’re on a budget. This means you can still offer a fine arts print-on-demand product to your customers despite your budget.
Here's a quick and easy visual to help you clearly see the differences.

Find the Perfect Paper Type for Your Artwork
Since paper is such an integral part of printing, it’s only natural that we offer a wider range of paper types in our Premium Frames collection for you to choose from. These include:
Each paper provides a different effect when printed, which is why it’s so important to understand the differences so you can select one that best suits your work. Art Paper and Photo Paper are generally the standard types, so let’s focus on demystifying our Cotton Rag range.
Cotton Rag Papers
Cotton Rag paper, also known as “rag”, is made of cotton linters or cotton that comes from cloth. It’s stronger and more durable than regular paper, and it generally absorbs printer ink better.
Our Cotton Rag papers deliver a noticeably different effect than printing on other paper types. Rag paper has visible texture, which can deliver slighter deeper visual interest when compared to smooth paper prints.
With this in mind, does that mean our Cotton Rag papers are considered suitable for finely detailed artwork? Most definitely! Fine lines and heavy detail actually appear more accurately and deeply on rag than smooth paper. Just keep in mind these two tips:
PrinTribe Paper Brands
We use several different brands for our Premium Frames paper range – see the chart below for the full list, including corresponding shades of white.
Paper | Brand | Whiteness | Brightness | Shade |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Art Paper Premium 230 gsm | Bauhaus | - | - | - |
Photo Paper Satin 235 gsm | HP | 90 | 90 | - |
Smooth Cotton Rag 280 gsm | Innova | 103 (CIE) | 96 (TAPPI) | Soft white |
Textured Cotton Rag 315 gsm | Innova | 136 (CIE) | 110 (TAPPI) | Bright white |
Fine Arts Printing – Giclée Prints
We produce giclée prints at PrinTribe, which are premium-quality fine art prints that are produced using specialised printers. Giclée prints use archival-quality ink, which means that your prints are resistant to fading or developing a yellow tone overtime. These types of prints are considered high-end, where the ink produces a wider colour gamut than other printing methods.
Customise the Look with Multiple Matboard Options
Matboard or mats do more than just look great with a framed print – matboards play a crucial role in protecting your print for years to come. They prevent overall deterioration which can otherwise happen without a matboard, where the edges and front of the work can get damaged or deteriorate from rubbing against the frame.
You can choose from four different matboard options in our Premium Frames range:
Two of the most popular options include the White Matboard Standard and the White Matboard Conservation, but what makes the Standard Matboard a budget-friendly option? Does it still perform as well as the Conservation version? The answer is a resounding yes. Both matboards are of exceptional quality and are designed to enhance the overall quality of our paper and printing process.
Our Conservation Matboard has undergone rigorous testing to ensure its bleed-resistance and acid-free properties. The Standard Matboard performs in the same manner, but simply remains unspecified due to the absence of formal testing.
Wrap, Send, Hang
Once the printing process of your Premium Frame product is done and dusted, your masterpiece is then wrapped with care using padded corners and bubble wrap for protection, before being shipped off to your customer. From there, they can hang their new artwork at home with ease thanks to our user-friendly hanging fixtures.
Within our Premium range, each printed frame is installed with a solid D-ring and wire, hence why you can call your prints from PrinTribe “ready to hang”. We consider the size of each frame and install the right grade D-ring and wire (regular or extra strong) to ensure a seamless, balanced hang.
Your customers will feel much more satisfied with a ready-to-hang piece, as they don’t have to take time out of their day to find a ring and wire, tediously install it themselves, and try to balance the artwork on their wall. Everything is done for them!
No matter your art style, if you’re a professional artist, or you’re selling some pieces on the side, the ability to offer your customers a customisable framed print of your work is what’s going to make you stand out from the crowd.
Fine arts printing is an art in itself, and we’ve perfected the process to make sure your work is produced at museum-grade quality with astonishing detail, every time. With 9-colour giclée printing, Guild-recognised framers, and a highly customisable variety of acrylic, moulding, matboards, papers, and sizes, you’ll impress your customers and keep them coming back for more.
